PREFACE.

-~ KJ4-

The Fourth Part of this List appeared in 1905, and since then all additional
items of printing in Dublin during the 17th century have been noted and are
embodied in this Supplement. I owe thanks for help to various friends for
references and particulars. A work such as this never ends. It is never ex-
haustive, and periodically further supplements become necessary. In the
splendid lists of Proclamations achieved for Lord Crawford by Mr. Robert Steele
hundreds of Proclamations printed in Ireland are noted in the Section devoted
to Ireland. It is, therefore, wholly unnecessary to include any such in this
supplement, and I have not done so, save in about half a dozen cases for special
reasons. Mr. Steele's monumental work supersedes any other in that direction
until further discoveries are made.

The Cataloguing of the unique collection of the late Henry Bradshaw of
Irish-printed books, etc., in the University Library, Cambridge, has made known
very many rare works, and added largely to this Supplement. I am very much
indebted to Mr. Charles Sayle of that Library in this connection. So, in a lesser
degree, has the excellent Catalogue of Lord Crawford's Library been a source of
help, and I have to thank Mr. A. G. Phillips, his Librarian, for his courteous aid.

Since the issue of the Fourth Part my valued colleague in this work, Mr.
C. W. Dugan, has died, and I am deprived of his historical and other assistance.
To his memory I would dedicate this supplement with gratitude.

NOTES

There are several reprints of London Tracts of a political or official character without any imprint, or
sine loco, that strongly resemble Dublin press work of this period.

Another class of such imprintless Tracts are reprints of Poems, doubtless pirated editions. For example
I have an edition of Dryden's " Absalom and Achitophel " without any imprint but very like Dublin printing
of the end of the Seventeenth Century.
